Activities

Extra-Curricular Activities

After school activities may include altar servers, Aviation Club, Bowling, Choir, CYO Basketball, Gymnastics, Pen Pals, Prayer Partners, Student Council, and Yearbook. At various times throughout the year students will participate in programs and activities relating to academic subjects. Children are encouraged to develop and share their special talents and be an active participant in all School-sponsored activities and community service projects.

School Government

Student Council - The Student Council is comprised of elected members of the student body and work with teachers on special school projects and areas of interest to the students.

In-school Clubs and Committees

Year Book Committee – The Year Book committee is responsible for developing the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School Yearbook each year. Students write copy, use photography and organize layout options with the guidance of a teacher who manages the process.

Music Lessons – Lessons are provided by the Music Shop during school hours. Children in third grade can choose violin or cello. Children from fourth grade through eighth grade may choose wind, percussion or brass instruments. Children perform at school concerts and assemblies.

Peer Mediators - Student peer mediators are trained to work with younger students on conflict resolution.

After School Clubs and Activities

Gymnastics – Gymnastics classes are held twice each week after school for boys and girls in grades Pre-k through eight. The classes are lead by physical education teacher, Mrs. Doreen Ohlott. Children learn tumbling, balance, jumps and self-confidence.

Pre-Musical Theatre Class – is held on Thursday afternoons.

Aviation Club – Children in grades 3-8 explore the many facets of physics, mathematics and aviation. Students build simple and complex flying machines. The club meets in ten-week sessions after school on Thursdays.

Drama Club is taught by Kindergarten teacher Miss Katie Adams. Students work on and perform two shows each year. Drama club meets on Tuesday afternoons.

Pee Wee CYO Basketball – Basketball for first, second, and third graders is held on Sunday afternoons in gymnasium at OLMC during the months of January through March. Children learn and practice skills as well as play scrimmage games for the hour session.
