A child's religious formation takes place in both the home and in School. Teachers and parents, by
their faith-sharing and good example, play a vital role in the religious education of children. The School continues
the work of the parents by teaching the principles of Catholic doctrine and good Christian living. As much as
possible, Christian values are correlated with all the curriculum areas.
Teachers lead the children in prayer in the morning, before lunch, and before dismissal.
Traditional and spontaneous prayers allow the School family to give their day to God at these times. Bible stories
and passages are often used to enhance the curriculum.
OLMC works in conjunction with Diocesan directives when planning the School religion
program. Faculty members participate in religious in-service programs in achieving basic catechist certification.
Children in second grade prepare for First Holy Communion which takes place during the month
of May. Preparation for First Penance takes place during the second semester of second grade.
Children attend regularly scheduled Mass during School hours. The students prepare the liturgy
under the direction of the classroom teacher, music director, and celebrant. Children are expected to walk quietly, and
to sit, stand, and kneel reverently. Regular church attendance is expected.
