Technology

To augment the learning experience, Our Lady of Mount Carmel (OLMC) employs the use of various computer technologies throughout the school.

Internet & Fully Networked Classrooms:

Through the use of Cablevision’s Power-to-Learn Program, full high-speed Internet access has been installed throughout the school and Library. In addition to each classroom being fully wired, the Internet is accessible from anywhere via the school’s Wireless network.

Computers:

Each classroom is equipped with two desktop computers and one shared color printer. For instructor-led computer classes, there are two mobile carts consisting of 20 laptops and two shared color printers each. All laptops have full wireless capabilities enabling their use anywhere in the school.

For smaller classes and research capabilities, the school Library is equipped with seven desktop computers and one shared color printer.

All laptops and desktops have been standardized on Windows XP with Microsoft Office 2003.

Smart White Boards:

Starting in the 2008-2009 school year, OLMC has employed the use of four Numonic Smart White Boards. By taking advantage of the school’s wireless network, these mobile boards can be used in any classroom. These boards offer a unique learning experience through teacher-student collaboration. In addition to being able to navigate the Internet directly from the white board, any annotations can be added and captured for later use.

Faculty & Staff:

Each teacher is supplied with her own laptop. Like the student laptops, they have been standardized on Windows XP with MS-Office 2003 and have full access to the Internet anywhere in the school.

As required by the Paterson Diocese, each laptop is also equipped with PowerTeacher. This online application allows for the centralized tracking of all curriculum and grades.

Each teacher and staff member is also supplied with her own e-mail to further enhance communication between the faculty, staff, students, and parents.
